  6. Dismantling Wheel Bearing (front)

Remove the wheel from the front fork, take off both spindle nuts and the brake plate with its shoes. Loosen the bearing adjusting nut and take off the lock nut and drive the wheel spindle out towards the brake drum side of the hub. Under no circumstances should the spindle be driven through from the brake side as this will dislodge the small seating washer which, is pressed on to the spindle between the shoulder of the spindle and the centre of the bearing.

The dust cap from the left-hand side of the front wheel is readily removable, the centre of the bearing can be taken out and can be packed with grease. Grease should then be packed into the cavity on the brake drum side and the spindle refitted.
